PROF. (ENGR) EMENIKE NYECHE WAMI
Ochi Ohna Ikwerre XV (2018 - 2023)
Born July 16, 1945, in Oroworukwo of Rebisi, Prof. (Engr) Emenike Nyeche Wami was an academic administrator and philanthropist. Academically, he attended St. Paul's School, Diobu (1951-1956) for the First School Leaving Certificate, County Grammar School, Ikwerre/Etche (1961-1965) where he obtained the West African School Certificate, and passed the General Certificate of Education (A/Level) in 1969. The Petrochemical Engineer served as teacher at Arch Deacon Crowther Memorial Girls School (ACMGS), Elelenwo, College of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt (1974), and Research Assistant at Imperial College of Science and Technology (1974-1979).
Traditionally, he held the title Ochi Ohna Ikwerre XV and served as President General of Ogbakor Ikwerre from 2018 to 2023.
His contributions to Ogbakor Ikwerre and the Ikwerre nation were extensive. As a lecturer at Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), he served as Member of Senate Committee on Curriculum and Instruction (1981-1982), Chairman of Faculty Examination Malpractice Committee, Member of University Senate (1984-1987, 1999-1994, and from 1999), Chairman of University Committee on Assets Documentation (1992), Member of Governing Council of RSUST representing Senate (1993-1994), Acting Head of Department of Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering (1984-87 and 1991-1994), Rector of Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori (1994-1998), Chairman of University External Relations Committee (2001), Dean of Faculty of Engineering (2001-2004), and Dean of Postgraduate School. He served as Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council (1987-1989), President of Ikwerre Development Association (IDA), President of Rebisi Progressive Movement (1984-1986), Secretary of Ogbakor Ikwerre OPA Branch (1982-1984), and President of Ogbakor Ikwerre UK Branch (1976-1978). He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers and member of numerous professional bodies including Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He is happily married and blessed with children.
