EMERITUS PROFESSOR OTONTI AMADI NDUKA

Ochi Ohna Ikwerre XI (2005 - 2008)

Born May 9, 1926, in Rumueme, Obio/Akpor LGA, Prof. Emeritus Otonti Nduka was a distinguished academician and philanthropist. Academically, he was educated at the famous Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha. He subsequently studied philosophy at Aberdeen and London (LSE) Universities and obtained a doctorate in Philosophy of Education from the University of Ibadan. He retired as a Professor of Education, University of Port Harcourt in 1991 and was appointed Emeritus Professor in 2012.

Traditionally, he was conferred the title of Ochi Ohna Ikwerre XI in 2009. He served as President General of Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organization Worldwide from 2005 to 2008.

His contributions to Ogbakor Ikwerre and the Ikwerre nation were profound. His professional career involved teaching and administration in primary, secondary, and tertiary educational institutions including brief stints as a civil servant in the Government of former Eastern Nigeria and the Federal Civil Service. He served as a member/director of several national governing boards of government institutions and parastatals, and was a fellow, trustee, and former President of the Nigerian Academy of Education. In 2013, he received the Distinguished Professor Award by the National Universities Commission and in 2017 the Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS). His research and publications focused on moral philosophy and related issues, championing excellence in education with particular reference to the ethical and values dimension of education. His seminal publication Western Education and the Nigerian Cultural Background (1964) critically addressed the moral/values dimension of education. His zeal for the upliftment of the moral edifice of the Nigerian body politic led to the setting up in 2006 of the Otonti Nduka Foundation for Values Education of which he is Chairman, Board of Trustees. He is married to Pamela Mekenzie Nduka and they have four surviving children.
