CHIEF S.A.J WACHUKU
Orosi IX of Ogbodo Isiokpo, Ochi Ohna Ikwerre IV (1981-1984)
Born Sunday, March 16, 1924, Chief Sunday Azubuike Job Wachuku (SAJ) was a distinguished administrator, entrepreneur, and politician. Academically, he attended Nyemoni School Abonnema, St Paul's Primary School Opobo Town, and Okrika Grammar School where he obtained the Cambridge Certificate in 1948. He was employed by Nigerian Tobacco Company Ltd (NTC) in 1949, trained as an Accountant, and served in Congo, Uganda, and Nigeria until he voluntarily retired in 1974 as Area Manager (East) after 25 years of dedicated service.
Traditionally, he held the title of Orosi IX of Ogbodo Isiokpo and Ochi Ohna Ikwerre IV. He served as President General of Ogbakor Ikwerre from 1981 to 1984.
His contributions to Ogbakor Ikwerre and the Ikwerre nation were significant. He was instrumental in forming the Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention and was unanimously elected as the Second President-General, serving for four years where he actively promoted the organization's best interests and that of all Ikwerre people. He served as President of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce (1970-1973), was unanimously elected the first indigenous President of Port Harcourt Club in 1972, and was appointed Commissioner for Rivers State Ministry of Trade & Industry by Military Governor Commander AP Diete-Spiff in 1974. He served as National Treasurer of the Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP) and was an astute politician who represented the interests of the Ikwerre Ethnic Nationality during the First and Second Republics. As a renowned entrepreneur, he built Orosi House Office Complex in Old G.R.A Port Harcourt and established Welenya Agro Allied Farms Ltd. He died peacefully on June 20, 1999.
